PlayStation made an announcement a few days ago that infuriated Helldivers 2 fans. Following the disclosure that players would be required to use a PSN account to continue playing the game, many gamers began requesting refunds.
According to the decision, players would be obliged to link their PlayStation Network accounts and Steam accounts after June 4th. The update was supposed to be released today. However, PlayStation made a post on X this morning, announcing the withdrawal of this practice.
Helldivers fans -- we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.

We’re still…
Following the announcement, there was growing anger among players. Users with Steam accounts would have been required to create a PlayStation Network account and link these two accounts to play the game.
However, the backlash and many players requesting refunds prompted the company to backtrack. In a post shared from the X account this morning, it was announced that the update had been withdrawn, and players no longer needed to link their accounts.
This decision, taken for the game estimated to have sold nearly a million copies in less than three months and among the most popular games of the year, delighted Helldivers 2 fans and those who wanted to continue playing the game.
